M.C. Mikulasek specializes in figure and portrait
sculptures and drawings. She drew her way through
sun drenched childhood in the southern Sierra
mountains, studied briefly at L.A. Art Center
School, then trained in college as a structural
engineer and architect. In 1972, while satisfying a
lifelong curiosity about how marble is carved, she
began, for the first time, to model figures in
clay. As the clay dried and the figures cracked,
Chris became very interested in lost-wax casting.
She worked at an art foundry to thoroughly learn
the craft, and for many years cast here own
bronze.
In her quiet and deliberate way, Chris has
crafted a powerful body of work which includes
numerous corporate and private commissions. Her
emotionally-driven creative sculptures are in
collections around the world. At her studio on San
Juan Island, Washington, she continues to explore
and express the dignity and beauty of the human
spirit, using as her vehicle the human figure, in
all its' breathtaking strengths and grace and
sensuality.
In 1998 Chris Mikulasek was awarded the
prestigious Alex Ettl Price by the National
Sculpture Society for "notable achievement in
American sculpture through a distinguished body of
work."
Her current work includes sculpting a life-size
mother and child and the completion of commissioned
work.
